Alabel, Sarangani — May 2025 — In a groundbreaking initiative toward environmental advocacy and legal empowerment, the Confederation of Circular Economy Club of the Philippines (CCECP) successfully launched its first forum titled “Case Build Up: A Forum on Pursuing Legal Actions in Environmental Cases.” Held at the heart of Region 12, the one-day event gathered legal professionals, environmental advocates, students, and community leaders to engage in meaningful dialogue and knowledge exchange on pressing environmental issues and legal remedies.

Tackling Environmental Law at the Local Level
The forum opened with the registration of participants from 7:30 to 8:30 AM, followed by preliminaries that set a formal and energized tone. At 9:00 AM, the first lecture was delivered by Atty. Florencio Amago Jr., who tackled “Environmental Law Challenges in Region 12: Issues in Protected Areas.” His insights highlighted the unique ecological and legal concerns within protected regions, particularly in Mindanao, setting the stage for a full day of legal-environmental discourse.
Legal Literacy and Case Building
Following a short discussion forum and the awarding of certificates, Atty. Galahad Pe Benito led the second lecture on “Fundamental Principles of Environmental Litigation and Environmental Procedure and Case Buildup.” This session offered a comprehensive overview of environmental legal frameworks, making it highly relevant for lawyers and advocates seeking to pursue actual legal actions in court.
The post-lecture forum allowed participants to ask questions, share field experiences, and connect with professionals actively involved in litigation and advocacy. This interactive format became a defining feature of the event.
Community and Sustainability: Dual Pillars of Environmental Justice
After a refreshing lunch break, Atty. Grizelda Mayo-Anda—well-known for her community-based legal work—delivered a compelling talk on “Environmental Laws and Community Involvement.” Her lecture emphasized the power of grassroots engagement in enforcing environmental protections and sparked renewed interest in localized enforcement mechanisms.
The fourth lecture, delivered by Dr. Nervy C. Santiago, brought a practical lens to the day’s academic and legal discussions. Her talk on “Waste-to-Energy Resource Recovery” bridged sustainability efforts with tangible policy applications, showcasing models for circular economy solutions.
From Forum to Action
The event concluded with an open discussion, certificate awarding, and closing remarks that summarized the day’s highlights. A final wrap-up emphasized the participants’ commitment to pursuing environmental justice through education, legal action, and sustainability initiatives.
Convening Forces Behind the Forum
The event was spearheaded by the CCECP with the unwavering support of its convenors: Jennelyn G. Matabang, Martsu Ressan Ladia, and Marian P. Gonzaga. The event’s energy and smooth flow were maintained throughout the day by podium masters Jermyn Gavilo and Eljay Cellacay. As the forum ended at 5:00 PM, it left behind more than just printed certificates—it left a charged community ready to act, equipped with knowledge, strategies, and a shared vision of justice for the environment.
